Computers have become a big help all around the world. They are so very different from what they were in their beginnings. Computers use to be really big, but in current times they can be as small as a phone and fit in the palm of your hand. They play a big part in news service, telecommunication, and publishing. The telephone companies have to use computers to switch and route calls automatically over telephone lines. Data can be sent to telephone lines from computers using a device called a modem. Many of the wonderful graphics and special effects on television and movies today are created with computers, for example the Star Wars Films relied heavily on drawn graphics that were made into computer images and then given the ability to move. Twenty years after this original release of these films, they were made with many new and different special effects. Some of these special effects include futuristic cityscape backgrounds, new alien creatures, and new sound effects that were created with the aid of computers. None of this would have happened without computers. If we didn't have computers we wouldn't know what the weather would be like. News providers rely on reporters worldwide. Reporters use their e-mails to send, or upload their stories to wire service. Individuals get daily news from all over the world on their computers daily, but if we didn't have computers they wouldn't be able to watch or read the news.
